the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed

  • God’s righteousness is His perfect conformity to His own holy character.
  • God’s righteousness is impossible to attain through the works of the law (3:19-20).
  • The law reveals God’s judging righteousness - Daniel 9:13–14 This entire disaster happened to us, exactly as it was written in the law of Moses. LORD our God, we never tried to gain your favor by turning from our wrongs and dedicating ourselves to your truth. So you were prepared to bring this disaster on us. LORD our God, you are righteous in everything you do. But we never listened to you.
  • God’s saving righteousness is revealed in the gospel - Romans 1:16–17

being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets - The saving righteousness of God was promised by God in the Old Testament:

  • Moses assured that God’s righteousness was attainable - Deuteronomy 30:11–14
  • The prophet Micah declared that God did not require works of law - Micah 6:6–8
  • David understood that a right heart was given by God - Psalm 51:15–17, 10–11

  • The righteousness of God has power to save and transform - Isaiah 59:1–21

even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ,

  • The saving righteousness of God and the judging righteousness of God are in Jesus Christ - Luke 23:41–43
  • Saving faith is trusting in Christ alone and depending upon Christ alone and clinging to Christ alone to save you so that you are not trusting and depending and clinging to anything or anyone else to save you.
  • Believe with your heart and call upon the Lord with your mouth - Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Every person ought to ask themselves this question: Am I right before God?

But now - Now in contrast with the past; at this time in God’s plan; at this point in time

Faith in Christ is the way to be right with God.
