The Judgment Seat of Christ: The Reward

1 Corinthians 5:10

Serving Christ will bring the greatest reward.

  1. Our works will be rewarded accordingly - 1 Corinthians 3:5–17
    1. Everything that we do in some way affects others.
    2. What we do is either useful to the Master or useless to Him.
    3. The value of the work will determine the reward.
  1. There will be a loss of reward at the Judgment Seat of Christ - 1 Corinthians 3:15
    1. Burned up works and suffering loss means loss of reward: If anyone’s work is found unworthy, the reward shall be forfeited.
      1. There will be no punishment at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
      2. There will be no chastisement at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
      3. There will be a shameful realization of our loss - 1 John 2:28
  1. There will be a receiving of reward at the Judgment Seat of Christ - 1 Corinthians 3:14
    1. There will be no comparing, complaining, or controversies about the rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ - 1 Corinthians 3:8; 4:5
    2. Varying rewards will result in varying degrees of praise, glory, honor, and privilege each believer will receive. The reward involves a greater capacity to reflect God’s glory and enjoy His presence.
    3. Five crowns can be earned by believers as rewards:
      1. The Imperishable Crown (1 Cor 9:25): faithfulness in self-control
      2. The Crown of Life (Jam 1:12; Rev 2:10): enduring trials and persecution
      3. The Crown of Righteousness (2 Tim 4:8): loving the return of Christ
      4. The Crown of Glory (1 Pet 5:4): faithful Elders, all who minister
      5. The Crown of Rejoicing (1 Thes 2:19): being a faithful witness
    4. Believers will be rewarded with a share of Christ’s inheritance - Colossians 1:12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
    5. Believers will reign with Christ in the Millennial Kingdom - Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
    6. Believers are rewarded with privileged service - Revelation 22:3 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.

What is your attitude toward Christ’s reward?

We must believe that the reward Christ promises is of the greatest value and it is worth every bit of sacrifice and suffering of service in this life! Revelation 22:12 And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
